When you are still twisting and turning in your bed, getting a good night’s sleep can seem like an impossible goal. How you feel during these waking hours often depends on how well you sleep at night, and the cure for your sleep problems can be found in your daily routine. Since many of us have difficulty getting the sleep we need, we often twist and toss in the middle of the night.

Comfortable Bed

You should focus on getting ready for bed and relaxing, and this may include activities you like, such as yoga, meditation, or even a walk or bike ride.

Stick to Your Bed Time Schedule

Set a regular bedtime and do not go to bed wide awake, and if there is a trend towards sleep problems, take steps to improve your sleeping habits at night. Keeping the circadian clock on is extremely important to maintain sleep quality. Your body adapts and craves regularity, and if you forget to get up in the middle of the night and wake up for your daily routine, your body will adapt and you will not get the regularities in your sleep schedule that you crave.

Create a Bed Time Routine

candleIn addition to your schedule, you should also create a bedtime routine that aims to help your body cool down from your daily activities and prepare for sleep. This bedtime routine can become a habit that sends a signal to your brain that it is sleeping time. Before going to sleep, you can take a warm shower, aromatherapy, brushing your hair, beauty regimen, or any activities that make you feel relax before you go to bed.

Exercise is essential for the body to feel ready to sleep, and even a walk can get the blood moving and improve sleep. Even a 10-minute nap can improve alertness, especially if you are sleep deprived. A short nap of 10-30 minutes helps you gain extra energy throughout the day and does not disturb your sleep. Take a nap, but you won’t feel the benefits until you’re well-rested, which may seem like a lot of work for a few hours or even a day or two.

Stay Away from Caffeine

Avoid things that prevent you from falling asleep, such as a large meal, too much caffeine or too many drinks or alcohol. Unhealthy day-to-day habits and lifestyle choices can be detrimental and cause you to throw back and forth all night. Lack of sleep is a severe health problem that can harm your overall health and productivity.
